THE FIRST STEPS OF MY BRAIN

IN MIND

Welcome to the IN-MIND project!

IN-MIND is a prestigious project funded by the European Research Council (ERC). The goal is to understand how brain plasticity works in relation to memory development, and language acquisition from the first days of life.

Our research team proposes a journey of new discoveries and adventures in which, together with experts, you can learn about the skills that are necessary for your child to acquire language, and not only that… It will be a fun journey in which parents become special witnesses of their little ones’ potential. In particular you will be able to discover:

  1. The brain’s potential to learn new information at birth.
  2. How this potential evolves in the first few months of life.
  3. What factors in the environment can promote neural plasticity, memory, and learning.
  4. How your child’s achievements relate to developmental milestones, particularly language acquisition.

We are a research group of the Department of Developmental and Socialization Psychology at the University of Padova. Our many years of research experience have focused on studying cognitive development in early childhood. Our multidisciplinary and international team is trained in the fields of psychology, neuroscience, education, and speech therapy. IN-MIND has allowed us to merge our paths and share a passion for discovering the secrets and exceptional capabilities of children’s minds. Find out more about each of us or come visit us!

IN-MIND's Value

IN-MIND will contribute to understanding the functions of memory and other cognitive processes that are prior to and accompany linguistic developmental milestones. The project focuses on children, but also considers the role that certain factors such as sleep quality and social interactions may have on neural plasticity and trajectories of typical and atypical development. The outcomes of this research may lay the foundations for identifying early vulnerabilities in which possible early interventions may be most effective. Thus, the findings could be useful in advancing innovative screening and assessment tools, as well as various public health initiatives and in preparing parenting educational programs aimed at increasing awareness and satisfaction in the relationships with their children. Participating in scientific research is beneficial for yourself, but also for all humanity: many children will be the main beneficiaries of the discoveries made thanks to your valuable contribution!
